JuvenileFebruary, 2000
Although this seemed from the scene a fairly clear case of suicide, it would have been beneficial if the police had treated the death as a homicide until proven otherwise. Family contacted SHE due to questions of method of death for a juvenile. Because there was clear evidence of suicide with lengthy handwritten note and no questionable behaviors of adults on premises that would lend to any concerns for foul play, SHE finds this death a suicide. Hanging is often shocking for a family and hard to understand as a chosen method of ending one’s life. However, hanging is actually a fairly common choice as it requires no special weapons and is quick and as it renders the victim unconscious very quickly, it is virtually painless. Another question centered over the reasoning for a young person to
commit suicide in a loving family. This happens more often than we realize
in today’s world due to the difficulties many young people encounter
in school and society. Many feel quite hopeless as to future joy and
purpose and feel the journey is too arduous. They love their family
and friends but feel unable to carry on in the world. Loved ones should
understand that they are not to blame in the death of this child. |
