Derek VanLuchene

Derek VanLuchene began his career in Law Enforcement in 1991, working for the City of Conrad Police Department. While working in Conrad, Derek functioned in a number of rolls within the Police Department including: Teaching the D.A.R.E. Program and heading up the child safe program. Derek assisted other officers and led several major case investigations, including large burglaries, homicide, sexual assault, and child molestation cases. Derek also served the community as an elected, two-term member on the school district's board of directors.

In 1998, VanLuchene was hired by the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation. From 1998 to 2003, Derek was assigned to the Division's General Crimes Section, where he investigated cases related to fraud, elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation, homicide, cold case, child sexual abuse and internal investigations. In 2003, VanLuchene transferred into the Professional Program Supervisor Position, and was in charge of the research, development, certification and implementation of advanced training for Law Enforcement throughout the State. In addition, Derek provided investigative support to the Division's Major Case Unit.

In July 2008, VanLuchene retired from The Montana Division of Criminal Investigation and is now working as the President and Founder of Ryan United, a company dedicated to his eight-year-old brother, Ryan, who was abducted and murdered by a repeat sex offender in 1987. Through this organization, VanLuchene offers support to victims, communities, law enforcement and legislative groups regarding sex offender issues.

Derek also works as a consultant for Fox Valley Technical College, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Stop Child Predators, The International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Innocent Justice Foundation. Through his personal and professional experiences, VanLuchene speaks to law enforcement and community organizations nationwide about how important their role is when it comes to missing and abducted children. Derek and his family have been instrumental on a state and national basis promoting tougher laws and stricter management of sex offenders.
